A report of wildlife sightings from the western edge of Maidstone, Kent. I note anything of interest in the vicinity of my home in Barming and from walks into work at the East Malling Research Station along the edge of Barming Woods and down to Ditton. Occasionally, when time allows, I get out to Ditton Quarry, a rich habitat hemmed in by residential and industrial developments on one side, but with open countryside on the other.

Friday 30th November 2012
Last day of the month and a cracking day weather wise. Fieldfares dominated the day. Starling numbers have built up steadily, but there was only a smattering of Redwings. 6x Meadow Pipits were in the Concept Pear Orchard and 15+ Skylarks lifted out of the nearby stubble field. It was good to meet up with a couple of birdwatchers on the footpath through the research site, looking like for Waxwings - nice to meet you ladies, sorry but I didn't catch your names.

One of the Manor Park County Park wardens informed me that there was a flock of 30-40 waxwings in the Broadwater Farm orchards. However a quick recce yesterday p.m. failed to relocate them.
