Saturday 30th May II - Nightjar night

After a lovely warm day I decided to take the short trip up to Barming Woods to track down the Nightjar I'd found last week. At 21:30 I found the Nightjar churring from it's favoured song perch and watched it as it moved from perch to perch, clapping it's wings each time it launched itself into the dying light for the next 30 minutes or so. I managed a couple of record shots of this fantastic, crepuscular creature!

Adam ,
I didn't know you had UFOs in the Barming area .
Did you try waving a white hankie at it ? I've read that sometimes it brings the male in close .
Well done .

Nice find Adam. Shame on you for using a flash on the poor creature! :-)

Thnaks for comments guys - the flash photo was a bit of a mistake on my part, in fact it was still relatively light when I took the photo (the flash has burnt out the daylight!) but the camera was on autoflash and fired off as I pressed the shutter down. I'm was gutted as I thought I'd disturbed the bird, but it settled down and remained on it's song perch and churred quite contently for the next 2 minutes! Needless to say I didn't take anymore photos!

any sort of photo of a Nightjar has got to be a bonus I should have thought. Well done Adam.
