An amazing record for East Malling Research Station today - 25+ Crossbills low over W while I walked my strawberry seedlings plots at Ditton Rough (adjacent to Kiln Barn Road).  They flew, low over west at midday, a tight flock, calling distinctively as they passed over.  I was interested to read that Barry Wright at 29 in the Darenth Valley an hour or so later, and good numbers were being reported from NW Kent.
