Tuesday 16th August 2011

Nice to get the first Wheatear of the autumn on patch at lunchtime - feeding voraciously around Gallagher's Gallop.  Not the first migrant on autumn passage though, with a juvenile Stonechat seen in the same location last Monday (8th Aug) and an unfortunate Sedge Warbler found dead below one of the lab windows on the research station on Sunday 7th Aug.

Other snippets included a Red Kite over Barming Woods,

2x Nightjar in a nearby woodland (video here and here),

3x Spotted Flycatchers in Barming on my final BTO Breeding Atlas survey and loads of Brown Hawkers, Red-eyed and Emerald Damselflies and 4x Kingfishers on the River Medway between Barming & Teston.

Hi Adam.
A great selection of birds there, shame about the Sedge Warbler. The Kite was a good find. Love the Nightjar footage.
